Dear Readers, Last week, I talked about my "no matter what list," and although I don't want to make these weekly emails all about time management, that is what it is transforming my life right now, as I am entering a new season of life. One that is less about me providing my time and energy to raising and launching kiddos, and more about me providing additional financial support to our empty nest, in flexible ways that will help fund the projects and travels my husband and I wish to pursue now that we are just two. This past week, I have been convicted of wasting time on things that are good but not the best use of my time. The biggest one is buying too much inventory to list on eBay. I list 10 items a week fairly consistently. To make that happen in the smallish city I live in, I need to grow my stash of unlisted inventory each summer so it's big enough to last me through the winter, since the local thrift stores provide me, on average, one to three listable items per week all winter long. The problem is that this winter, I was gone for almost 6 weeks, so 60 items in my stash did not get listed. I also decluttered our home for a week in late Fall and a week in early Spring, and found at least 20 more items worth my time to resell. And now that it is yard sale season again, where I am, I WANT to spend time out there grabbing the deals, but the honest truth is I DON'T need as many as I usually do. What is GOOD is getting out there and finding bargains to store away for winter. What is BEST is to sit down and figure out exactly what my winter needs are, based on the size of my current stash and the average rate of finds during the months without yard sales in my area, so I don't buy more than I need for my current listing goals, or spend more time shopping than I need to. Do I want to do this? No, I want to get out there and shop. I love the thrill of the hunt. But business-wise, and storage-wise, shopping without a plan doesn't make sense. There are so many BETTER ways to spend my time and money than overshopping. So this weekend, I will be crunching the numbers and then setting limits on stash buying. Yard Sale Season Is Here! Dear Readers, It has been 6 years since I outgrew my job as a homeschooling mom, and during that time, I have been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Am I the only farm girl who actually knows what that looks like?! Sounds weird, but until I heard about the "NO MATTER WHAT" list, I couldn't pinpoint why I was suddenly so less productive than when I was a homeschooling mom. Sure, age and menopause have something to do with it, but readers, it was so bad I asked my therapist...
Dear Readers, I had a great Mother's Day weekend with my kids. On Saturday, my two boys came along with me to our adopted granddaughter's soccer game, and they went yard-saling with me before and after as well. It was the first time they had joined me in yard saling since they were little, and they seemed to enjoy it MUCH more this time. Each of them got a few finds. By mid-afternoon, we had to stop shopping because my little Nissan Kicks was FULL. Mostly with big items like the Ikea chair my...
Dear Readers, I am writing this email to you from my newly finished couch table, made from a yard sale find and a piece of pine board from Lowe's. You can see how it turned out here. I am loving it! I am looking forward to testing it out as a puzzle table this weekend, and soon as an art table, as I am slowly gathering all the products I need to create items for Etsy. I will be sharing photos of my next thrift makeover on Facebook soon, so hit follow to stay updated. I would LOVE to know...
